Digital Imaging: Jing to make screencastsBelow is a short Jing video on how to edit a photo online. Jing is a great way to make screenshot videos for your classroom. Sites like Google+ will now provide the same capabilities Picnik did in this video. In the class this can be used to create a video for a flipped class. I have used educreations as well for this.
First try at a flipped classroom set up is below. Students were given notes to take home and fill out while watching the video. They then brought them to class the next day and worked on an assignment during class while I aided in questions throughout the class.

Digital Storytelling: ToonDooDigital storytelling is yet another way to keep your students engaged in your classroom. This tool can be used in many different ways. I chose to use it as an introduction to a lesson. I chose to try out ToonDoo in the comic below. Other digital story tellers are PowerPoint, timelines, videos, and slideshows to name a few. In my classroom digital storytelling can be used as a tool to grab my students attention or as a tool for them to construct and present topics to the class. Bringing these tools into a mathematics classroom takes a bit of creativity but can be very engaging when used in the correct ways. ToonDoo can easily bring visual interest to introduce a lesson for the day and also relate the math to an everyday context. You could also construct a project for student where they present their results explaining their topic to another group through storytelling. If they were able to tell a story explaining a topic to their peers it would enhance their understanding of the material.
I used ToonDoo as an example of digital storytelling below. It is a sample introduction to a lesson about surface area, volume and similar figures. This would be used as a warm-up for the lesson. ToonDoo is easy to use and gives the user lots of options in creating a comic book type layout. I really liked the freedom I had when I created the story. It was difficult to navigate at first because there were so many different options however after using for a bit it became easier to use. Below is an introduction to a lesson about changing the size and volume of a cake to create similar cakes. Students also have to think about how they would cover a cake in frosting and the surface area required.
