Lesson Planning
Below are two sample tasks that I created and implemented within my Algebra 2 and Precalculus classes.
Exploring Series and SequencesThis sample work is somewhat of a launch/warm-up I gave both my students in Precalculus and in Algebra 2 when each were in their respective units on sequences and series. This prompt was created to let the students investigate the material before formally defining it mathematically. This prompt has students work with arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. Later in the chapter we refer back to the problem and create formulas for each scenario.

Discovering Standard DeviationThis task allows the students to discover the meaning behind standard deviation through car's projected miles per hour rating. Students are launched into the task by the prompt, "You just got your license and were given a choice between five cars. You want to choose the car that will give you the best mileage so you do not have to pay high gas prices too often. Your job today will be to decide which is the best choice." Students see the five choice displayed on the board and talk a bit about them before working on the task. Above is a lesson plan and below is the lesson. This lesson was created by me. I used a combination of a lesson I found on teacherspayteachers.com and from the EMaths tasks on the Macomb ISD website.
